What is 6061 aluminum

The main alloying elements of 6061 aluminum are magnesium (Mg) and silicon (Si). The content of silicon and magnesium in this alloy is close to forming magnesium silicide (Mg2Si), so it is a heat-treated wrought alloy.

Main tempers

Al-6061 is a general-purpose structural alloy developed by Alcoa in 1935. Its main tempers are 6061-T4, 6061-T451, 6061-t6 and 6061-t651.

The difference between the 6061 t6 aluminum and t651 is that under normal circumstances, the internal stress of T6 will be relatively large, and the processing will deform. The most suitable state for processing should be T651, which is stretched on the basis of T6 to eliminate internal stress.

6061 t6 is a commonly used aluminum alloy temper. Unless otherwise specified, it is generally in the state of 6061t6, and 6061t651 has the best characteristics, having excellent processing performance, excellent welding characteristics and electroplating properties, good corrosion resistance, high toughness and no deformation after processing, dense material without defects and easy polishing, easy coloring film, excellent oxidation effect,etc.
